A communication base station is composed of a computer room, base station, antenna, feeder line (transmission line between transmitter and antenna), and supporting equipment. The antenna is at the top of the signal tower, and below the tower is a computer room.

 

Inside the computer room is a base station, which is a device that sends wireless signals. The base station is divided into two parts: BBU and RRU. BBU is used for signal processing, RRU is used for signal transmission and reception, and the feeder is used to connect the antenna and the base station. The supporting equipment includes power supply and constant temperature equipment to ensure the normal operation of the base station in extreme weather.

 

Generally, base stations operate BBU and RRU separately. BBU is placed in the computer room, while RRU is placed on the tower. The optical modules used to connect BBU and RRU devices are optical modules and optical fibers. In 4G networks, the optical modules used to connect BBU and RRU are mainly gigabit to 10Gbit optical modules. In 5G networks, the optical modules used for connecting BBU and RRU are mainly at 25G speed.

① 1.25G SFP optical module (Gigabit optical module)

Adopting a wavelength of 850nm, operating temperature of 0-75 ℃, power consumption less than 1w, transmitted through multimode fiber, with a transmission distance of 550m;

② 10G SFP+optical module (10GHz optical module)

Using a wavelength of 850nm, operating temperature of 0-75 ℃, power consumption less than 1w, transmitted through multimode fiber, with a transmission distance of 300m.
