The 100G QSFP28 optical transceiver module is a high-speed optical communication module commonly used in application scenarios such as data centers, cloud computing, and high-performance computing. The commonly used module types include SR4, LR4, ER4, PSM4, ZR4, SR BIDI, and SWDM4. The following will introduce the characteristics and applications of the first four types of Mshine Optics

1, 100GBASE-SR4 QSFP28 optical module

SR4 (Short Range 4) is a short distance multimode fiber module that supports a maximum transmission distance of 100 meters. It uses optical signals with a wavelength of 850nm to transmit data, typically used for internal interconnection within data centers. The maximum transmission rate of this module is 100Gbps and supports two types of multimode fibers, OM3 and OM4.

When the 100GBASE-SR4 QSFP28 optical module transmits signals at the transmitting end, the electrical signal is converted into an optical signal through a laser array, and then transmitted in parallel on a strip multimode fiber. When it reaches the receiving end, the photodetector array converts the parallel optical signal into a parallel electrical signal.

2, 100GBASE-LR4 QSFP28 optical module

LR4 (Long Range 4) is a long-distance single mode fiber optic module that supports a maximum transmission distance of 10 kilometers. It uses optical signals with a wavelength of 1310nm to transmit data, typically used for interconnections between data centers. The maximum transmission rate of this module is 100Gbps.

The 100GBASE-LR4 QSFP28 optical module converts four 25Gbps electrical signals into four LAN WDM optical signals, and then multiplexes them into a single channel to achieve 100G optical transmission. At the receiving end, the module demultiplexes 100G optical input into 4 LAN WDM optical signals, and then converts them into 4 electrical signal output channels.

3, 100GBASE-ER4 QSFP28 optical module

ER4 (Extended Range 4) is an ultra long distance single mode fiber optic module that supports a maximum transmission distance of 40 kilometers. It uses 1310nm wavelength optical signals to transmit data, typically used for long-distance transmission between data centers. It has the characteristics of low power consumption and high performance. The maximum transmission rate of this module is 100Gbps.

The 100GBASE-ER4 QSFP28 optical module adopts advanced modulation technology, which can achieve high-speed data transmission on single-mode optical fibers. In addition, the optical module also supports digital diagnostic monitoring (DDM) function, which can monitor the working status, optical power, temperature and other parameters of the module in real-time, improving the reliability and stability of the system.

4, 100GBASE-PSM4 QSFP28 optical module

PSM4 (Parallel Single Mode 4) is a parallel single mode fiber module that supports a maximum transmission distance of 500 meters. Usually used for internal interconnection within data centers. The maximum transmission rate of this module is 100Gbps. It adopts parallel transmission technology and uses four single mode optical fibers to simultaneously transmit data, which can improve transmission bandwidth and distance.

The fiber transmission model of the 100G QSFP28 PSM4 optical module is similar to that of the 100G QSFP28 SR4 optical module, with the biggest difference being that the transmission medium of the PSM4 optical module is a single-mode fiber, using a laser light source of 1310nm, and the connector is a single-mode MTP/MPO.

In summary, both SR4, LR4, ER4, and PSM4 types of modules have advantages such as high-speed transmission, low power consumption, and high reliability. These four types of 100G QSFP28 optical modules are widely used in data centers and cloud computing, providing more efficient, fast, and stable solutions for data transmission.
